A record-breaking 1.1 million visas issued for the UK this year

The UK Home Office has released statistics showing the number of UK visas issued this year, which is said to be almost double what was recorded in 2019 (the year before COVID lockdowns began). This can be due to the number of European passport holders now needing a visa to live, study and work in the UK after Brexit, therefore, more Skilled Worker visas have been issued than ever before.

So, just how many visas were granted for the UK this year?

Whilst the number of European’s applying for visas increased, it appears they weren’t the only ones emigrating. A breakdown of the visa-types can be seen below:

230,000 were settlement visas

82,300 were family visas

468,900 were study visas

331,200 were work visas

Why the UK has seen a huge rise in visa applications recently?

A study was conducted by the US News 2022 Best Countries which labelled the UK as a top country to live in because of opportunities for education and work, as well as being suitable for family life. Due to the UK’s growing expat community, it is now becoming known for being more culturally diverse than ever before.
